Meet the Thurmans

Meet the Thurmans

September 3, 2014

March 2010

Seven years ago, after a few months of being married Noleen and I went to Germany with George and Hanna Miley as part of the Eifel Prayer days.  We went back several other times to participate in this ministry of reconciliation.

A Ministry of Reconciliation

Hanna in front of recently placed gravestone for her parents in Gemund 2003This was about God calling a German Jewish Holocaust survivor, (Hanna) to return to the area of the profound wrong done to her with the message incarnate in her life that Christ transforms people in such a way that we are able to love our enemies.  God heard those early prayers in the Eifel , and a ministry of reconciliation sprang from them that is still ongoing and being extended.
This trip to Poland , to honor Hanna's parents in the place where their lives were taken from them, (these and other important details have recently been discovered through research Hanna has been doing as part of her writing a book about her story)is being undertaken in fellowship with Germans.  I have been personally asked by Hanna to be part of the group who accompanies her, to pray with her and support her in this difficult journey.  The trip will be from April 27-May 5th.

A Few Trip Details

train and tracksWe would travel from Gemünd to Köln by train and pray at key locations.  One will be the area where Hanna's parents and the other Jews were rounded up to be put on the transports.  Another would be the station from which the trains left
We would begin our train trip to Poland .  Hanna would like to follow the same route her parents' transport followed
We would arrive at Lodz , Poland .  The transport from Köln delivered Hanna's parents to the ghetto here, where they spent the last six months of their lives
We would travel by van from Lodz to Chelmno - about one hour away.  It was at Chelmno that Hanna's parents died.  There we want to have a simple Jewish ceremony - the Kaddish - to remember and honor them

Future Implications

peaceMy participation builds on the investment we have made in the past, and, perhaps, lays a further foundation for what God may have in the future.  God is calling Noleen and I to work more closely with the George and Hanna as we continue to develop a center for Apprenticeship to Jesus in downtown Phoenix , we are also aware of their desire to establish an international center in Germany and believe we could have a role in this as well.
